carb / injected XU question

Post by Stinkwheel(Matt) » 12 Aug 2013

Im asking this here as basically, im less likely to get people who think they know answering, instead of those who actually know.....(thats no slur on those willing to help, but i cant afford to be wrong on this)

xu 1580CC petrol lumps came in single point injection and carb flavour.

Is the carb engined head the same as the injected version?

Im assuming yes as its just single point on a manifold (which is basically carb fitment anyway)

but does anyone know? Or have a spare 1.6 XU head or even full lump ?
OK, so i've got some stuff, some of it goes, some of it doesnt, some of it never will again!

I'm dieselly so have no idea although when I had the Meteor (carb) I was told it was easy to convert to FI as only the manifold was different.
Not true, as there are electroniky things involved which be the work of ye devil, so I didn't bother and converted it to proper diesel power
But from an engineering point of view, I would be surprised if they were in fact different.

no probs, bear in mind though, early heads (pre 1991 on the 16's) had different castings, they are interchangable though

If you end up taking heads off, I've got a full head gasket set and bolts for the 16 here going cheap. Can post or collect at stratford at the end of the month.

I'll be there too, so may give her some competition...ran out of booze at the National :( I think it's safe to say I was slightly more pissed at Stratford a few years back!

slightly? You tried to walk to Birmingham! Albeit you walked off in completely the wrong direction...
I haven't touched a drop of alcohol since the national, and I hardly had any there, so assuming I'm allowed to drink again by Stratty I imagine 3 and I'll be fucked!

Edited for accuracy. With little success I seem to recall...

Whether I completely let my hair down or not will depend on whether I'm bringing the dog - if I do then to be fair I need to at least be slightly capable of looking after her!
