ABS front flexies.

Post by David » 04 Dec 2007

Given that the BXC server is clearly dieing, I'll cross post this here so that people can see it without waiting for a month of sundays to see it on BXC:

BX +ABS front brake flexies are indeed still available in the UK, and fairly easily too.

Ordered with my friendly local motor factor late yesterday afternoon, and delivered to my door not 10 minutes ago by a bloke in a van:

For the grand total of £21.95 for the pair. (£9.34 each +vat)

If anyone is having difficulties getting hold of either these, or non-abs ones, I can easily order them from this motor factor, and post them on.

I tried to reply on the other side, but god knows if it did actually post, it crashed again as I hit submit...

Most useful mate, Smiffy needs some, as does ELF, so I may cross your palm with silver very soon, as the main stealer in Bristol is still saying they cant get any! and I've been waiting for over two months now....

If I order some now, they'll be with me tomorrow. I can order you 4 now if you like...

6? 8? 200? I know you change them on an obscenely regular basis.

Thats very kind, thank you David. no massive urgency but 4 would be great at some stage, then I could do ELF and the valver.

Smiffy, you want some aswell??

I'll put an request in for some with my next order then, unless you need them sooner. Yeovil Motor Factors deliver to a garage not 2 miles away from me on a fairly regular basis, so they don't mind coming the extra distance to deliver to me. They've even brought me out £2 worth of oil filter before now, despite me telling them not to bother until they actually have to come this way!

Properly helpful lot.

Blimey, you dont get that sort of service in this town!

That'll be fine mate, ELF got an MoT without doing them, but I dont want to leave them till the next MoT, and the valver is, well, in eleventy billion pieces, so there's no immediate hurry at all.
Let us know when you do have them and I'll come collect!
Do you want some cash now??

The main stealer parts desk in Bristol is manned by a 12year old gimp that has no idea what the hell a BX is, which doesn't help.
GSF aren't interested in getting anything for the BX at all now (certainly here in Bristol anyway)..

Thanks David, I'll come and see ya before the Xmas thing and furnish you with some cash / beer!

I've just ordered another three pairs of brake flexies for BX+ABS. No problem at all for YMF, they'll be with them tomorrow lunchtime.

Bloody Buggering Hell.

Spoke too soon didn't I. The flexies they sent weren't ABS spec ones. Full story here.

As a consequence, Doc, Smiffy, if you do still need ABS front flexies, I can make some up for you from Non-ABS ones.

Bugger!
See, I knew it sounded too easy!

As it goes, if you haven't modded them already, I'll buy a pair as is off you, since the TD is non-ABS, and it can have a spare set!

As and when you feel so inclined, if you wish to mod a set for the valver then that would be ace mate.
Obviousley I'll pay you for your time.
Thanks David.

Well, the one pair that I bought are now modded and fitted to my BX. I haven't bought any more yet as I told YMF (Yeovil Motor Factors) that the ones they sent weren't correct, so they had the good sense not to send me several more sets of incorrect hoses.

The good news is that since I had the old hoses from mine, I've given one to YMF and they are going to try matching it to finding a suppler of ABS hoses. If they can't, then I honestly don't think anyone can, so modifying them will be the way forward.

If you are in dire need of a set, then I can mod another set of non-ABS ones before YMF get back to me....

OH right. Fair do's, dont worry for now then mate. the TD hoses are fine for now, and the valver is nowhere near the stage of needing a set yet, since the front suspension is actually nowhere near the car right now....

Smiffy: unless we order something like 500 hoses, no manufacturer is going to be interested in making any, as the tooling costs to cut the M9 thread won't be worth it. Someone has to have made these things in the first place, so the tooling must exist. It's just a case of finding who has it.

Bandit: GSF seem to have been selling off the remains of their BX stock for a while now. Some branches might have a few left in stock, but I doubt many have. Even the non-ABS hoses I got from YMF wheneveritwas were older stock: Date stamped 2004. I bet no-one is making BX brake hoses any more, we're just using up all the old stock now.

Yep, GSF are not replacing any BX specific parts anymore.
Which is why TD rads, ABS driveshafts (which were always shite anyway), Flexi's and the such are now unobtainable, unless they happen to have one loitering "out the back".

Handily, since we know a man that can with brake hoses, we should laughing!
Even if non abs hoses are now "old stock" I imagine there's ALOT more of them than ABS type..
