mot failure
me bx 19tzs petrol failed the bloody mot on emissions CO
max limit is 3.500 my reading was 4.170
reckon its something to do with the diesel i put in the car by mistake when we went to vannys a couple of weeks ago
although of course it might not be
sooo
if i remember right i put in about 10 lt of diesel in but then brimmed it with petrol
car ran but with smoke
then ran it till the empty fuel light came on and put 5lt in
ran this till empty light came on and some more,
put another 5lt in and ran till light came on
by now it had stopped smoking and was running ok ish
put half a tank in and changed the small in line fuel filter
never had a problem with emissions before soooo
later on today will change the spark plugs
what else do i need to check/do
and yes i know im a twat already so fuck off

I'm surprised the mot centre didn't just tweak the idle mixture down a bit for such a small amount over. If you know which the idle mixture screw is, just wind it in 1/4 of a turn. 4.1 CO is indeed a bit rich, but it's not drastic.
Changing the plugs may well help a bit, as might changing the oil. Far easier just to tweak the carb though.

... all landings are in fact controlled crashes, and any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. The definition of a good pilot is a man with the same number of landings as take-offs.

Well the miserable bastard, he must have been having a bad day. unless you had already pissed hiom off.
That`s hardly anything... less than one point up. He really should have adjusted it for you The TZI we had used to go through at about 2
My TXD dirty diesel goes through every year at about 0 .6 <smirk>
As for cures? I think the lads have covered it

Now children stop spitting dummies out.
At least long enough to listen up
1. Is the smoke appearing at high throttle, in a steady stream, or is it only appearing on overrun and what colour is it
2. Make sure the engine has been run for at least 1/2 an hour before the test, and make sure he warms it up properly before taking a reading, if it`s been stopped for more than 20 mins. One of the most common things I pull them for is testing too cold and holding the high rev too long plus not pressing the end test button before it goes into overrun Keep an eye on him while the test is on. If it fails again and your not happy tell him
But don`t start quoting me (I`ve got a mate etc) or you`ll only upset him
or is it a her?
Dose of redex wouldn`t do any harm poured straight into the carb intake while it`s running

Anyway, you can edit the title of the thread now Charlie........unless you're reserving it for the XM!
