Taking a Break.

Post by docchevron132 » 19 Mar 2009

So, I have the week off work, and had intended to spend it on the bus.
But the latest arrival rather put paid to that.

So, this week I have been mainly working on this:
Image
Purchased from the bay of plenty for £150 from a dude in Street, Somerset.

We went to see it before bidding, and bar the hydraulic leak, fucked pedal box and various other little niggles it felt like a nice drive.

That said, thus far this week it's had:
cam belt kit.
Cam seals.
Intercooler.
Handbrake cables.
Discs and pads all round.
Various bulbs.
A rebuilt instrument binnicle (with all the guages of course!)
Diff seals and oil.
Front calipers
O/S/F hub carrier.
Pedal box (that was fun....)
A proper steering wheel (GTi wheels FTW!)
N/S mirror
Bowden cables
Spheres all round
big and small octopus
and this:

Yes yes, I know it's an engine! Since I had the lid off anyway, I thought it would be impolite not to, er, fiddle it a tad, especially since most of the tappets were tight, although three were really slack, so I threw a 19NA cam in it! Matt doesn't know yet, but I took it for a blast down to the village and back after finishing rebuilding the front brakes today, and it do go like fuckin' hell! Dont smoke like mine niether... :(

and fuck knows what else.
Quite alot actually.
All in though I've spent about £200 and the result is a fucking nice motor!
It's clearly been neglected in the last few years but for less than the £500 he nearly paid for that white thing Tim found a while ago it's a gem!
Although it was a bit of a pisser when Matt returned to the farm in it on the weekend having filled it up with fuel to discover DERV fucking out the tank.
The pick up unit had been broken in the past, and sikaflexed back together!

A few frantic moments with mysef and Smiffy hauling shit out of the back of the TXD breaker for another unit soon cured that though, although the farm is now well lubricated with diesel fuel..

This car will be fully P2'd, so expect more piccies as it becomes possibly the only break on earth with a P2 rear end!

There are still a fair few panels attached to the scrapper at the farm, assuming its not been squashed, they could be of use?

Methinks you can go get em yourself. Though i'm starting to think a battery powered angle grinder might be the way forward!

Aye, the coach behind it is G's Volvo B10M, of which I have spent far too long welding the body back together!

The Leyland truck is a,er, Buffalo I think, recovery truck, and it's for sale!
L12 12 litre Leyland engine, wierd as fuck 5 speed box, 45mph flat out, but it will pull a row of houses up a mountain at 45mph!
