Gearbox issues...

Post by jayw » 30 Dec 2009

Got me scratching me head on this one...

Friend of mine has a Pug 106 TU-Diesel with a gearbox problem:

With the engine running the clutch has to be kept depressed as it "appears" to be stuck in a gear. However, when i had a look at it today it appears more seized as no matter how hard you rev it the car doesn't even try to edge forth or back when you let the clutch up slowly, it just stalls after bite-point.

Now i'd normally assume it to be seized, however with the engine off the car can be freely rolled back & forth with the clutch engaged and no is no longer stuck in anything???

The clutch works fine and the gearstick wobbles freely but won't engage any gear, it will however slip into the reverse position lighting the reverse lamp.

Any ideas???

Cheers, Jay.

Could be just an adjustment problem. There are mixed views on this but if it's the same set up as the BX putting a 8mm longer adjustment bar sorts it.

Another thing that reflects those symptoms is , if the clutch plates have become contaminated with oil, the stick together intermittantly

Are TU engines not the opposite control of the 'normal' BX ie are they not pull clutch rather than push? Not sure if that helps to be honest.

Depends on year..
That said, it *could* be that the crown wheel ring gear have parted company, since for reasons best known to PSA the crown wheel "teeth" are not actually part of the crownwheel / planet gear cage..

try sticking it in gear with ONE front wheel in the air, with the engine off.
Can the wheel be easily rotated?
