some pics of me strut mounts

Image

Image

on this other mount the rubber has come away from the mount

Image

you can stick the rubber back in

im lookin at the swedish replacement but im gonna ask for a second opinion on whether these are actually fucked

theres minimal loss of metal on the upper rim and the rest looks quite sturdy

soooooooooo might be salvageable, i dunno??????

bloke off the xm site has offered me some struts and mounts off a 2.5 for £120 but they come with the larger diameter hole but if i was to replace think id go swedish

hers some more pics

Image

this was the gear box oil

Image

and this was the lhm

:) :) [no] They look ok Charlie, but there is a lot of rust there and the metal starts to go brittle. You could repair them, in my opinion, but the units could crack in situ, once real force is brought to bear.

:D The good news is now I`ve seen them they could be made in one piece. I think our Swedish pals have made them so you can remove again to service perhaps. They look thicker still on your piccies but metal does swell up with rust
If you are coming up to Bandits next Saturday, fetch one with you and we`ll have a look

If you know of a supplier of "gorilla glue" (not a wind up) near you, get some I`ll have some too. It seems to have vanished up here :(

If you get some READ the istructions before use as it`s lethal stuff :P

OO ERR. I don`t like the look of yer fluids

its the gearbox oil that a real show stopper

i ummed and ahhed on wethre to do the head gasket befrore it went

and now with the state of the gearbox oil me thinks its only a matter of time before the auto box goes

maybe i should just whip the engine/gearbox out

then with bandits help do the head

and then tackle the gear box

not that i know that much about gearboxs mind

hmmmm [chin] [chin]

Just emailed you that reply I had from the breakers re: the XM auto box. Is £300 inc delivery a good price for an xm auto box anyone know?

yeah it aint broke but its the same argument in doin the head

look at the state of the coolant/gear box oil

then tell me that the head / autobox isnt going to go

then if they're on the way out then i might as well fix it now

rather then wait for it to go in france say:shock::shock::shock:

:P :P :? Dont get over exited. if it was running before then once everything has been cleaned flushed and refilled all should be ok.

But we got here before on that other thread. With the mileage, and if you are going to keep the car, why not do all the jobs that scare you, coz once you have done them, A, they won`t scare you any more, and B, you will be confident to take the car anywhere, coz you know the jobs have been done and done properly. There are enuff plonkers on here, to suggest next steps, if you get stuck  So long as the valve block connections are still tight
and the brake bands aren`t burnt (you can smell it) you should get away with cleaning everything on the autobox.

I wouldn't touch a second hand autobox TBH, not unless it comes with a guarantee.
There's nowt complicated about them (well, not really) If I was going to overhaul a box I'd replace the epicyclic bearings, the clutch pack (expensive), oil pump (cause they fail alot), the brake band (there's only one,m and it has a hard life if the line pressure is out of whack).
Then I'd strip the valve chest and replace the valves and springs. The springs seem to loose their, er, springyness after about 150K miles...

As for the head gasket, I'd still leave alone till it needed doing frankly, it's a lot of work, although if you're pulling the lump out.....hhmm..

As for the strut top mounts, there's no way in a million years I'd reuse them. They are scrap.
What you gota consider here is the potential forces they take, and it can be quite a large amount.
There's a very good reason why the two metal bits are seperated by rubber..
Use them as ashtrays if you must, but for your own safety, dont use them as strut top mounts again. They could kill you.

Is this a later version to "Who the fuck is Alice?"

They were singing that down the pub Saturday night while the band was trying to sing the original Smokie version. :P
