Insurance revisited..

So, the valver is up for renewal again, and like last year it's gone up.
Cant work out why, since I have 9+ years NCB and nothing's changed, but for the last two years now, it's gone up.

So I looks on comparethemeerkat.com, and low and behoild, the best value quote, for better cover than I have now, is with Swinton (who I am currently with on this car) for nearly £300 less.
How the fuck does that work then?

partly they all offer new customer discount, bt Swindon is a broker and its likely the new policy is with another company. Oddly we had the same with the house insurance, and saved 100 quid re-insuring with the same company on line.

£300 less? How much are you paying now???
When mine was last insured i only had 3 years NCD and it was only £204 FC.
I had some quotes a couple of weeks ago declaring all the massive mods to the BX and with a £5k agreed value and it still only came out at £350 FC with 4 years NCD.

I too have experienced higher renewals on other cars, despite the fact that my NCD had also gone up a year (which should have made it cheaper), whenever i've rung them about it they just say tha renewals are done automatically by computer and they'll "have another look" which always produces a lower quote (I use brokers). I think they just expect you to accept the renewal they send you to save you hassle!

I thought all these comparison sites were junk TBH. Lat Nov my quote from the company I was with came out at around £480. I end up with a large company like Allianz, declared 1 accident
£2000's worth and one speeding offence (39 in a 30 FFS) and it came back at

£290 Simples

This for the Picasso!

£531.16...

FC, euro cover and all that shit, although I didn't realise until I looked at the renewal a bit more carefully than usual that it doesn't even cover commuting!
Fuckers..

Thats with a clean licence, no accidents, parked off street etc etc.
Although my postcode doesn't help, and neither does my job...

Still cheaper than the TD though.

Think I'll give thema ring in a minute and ask WTF is going on!

I should go on a few sites first Doc and get some quotes to slap them with.

A friend of mine did this and suddenly the insurer he was with found "errors" in his quote, his premium dropped by 1/2!!!

Just a thought. What do you need Eurocover for if you don't x to Fr***e regularly.

It's much cheaper to get extra cover for a specific 2-3 weeks when you do...

Have a look what you are paying for and put in only the things you want, not what they want to put in.

Oh just got your post....brill

Well, I haven't been to Belguim for a while, but it's good to know I can if I want to, as it goes the euro cover thing has been aded for no charge, so worth having, I have removed all this shit I dont need, like fucking legal protection (get that from work through the union) and key cover..

£20 a year for fucking key cover? Madness...

They really are thieving fucks though huh!

And indeed you're quite right, they just hope you'll not argue and pay up, I love it when you say shit like "right well, I'm looking at XXX website now, and your insurance is cheapest, for better cover, and yet your renewal in post is way more, WTF is that all about then"

"ooh, hang on sir, I'll see what I can do"

wankers.

I guess they would be desperate to keep you for £350 doc as I pay £140 FC inc business use for the GTi. OK it's not the 16v and I'm in a different area but what a MASSIVE difference.

It's the job that makes the biggest difference TBH.

We are considered a much higher risk than most..

Now you surprise me on that, as a professional driver with constant experience I would have thought it would go in your favour. Also while you are tied up in your bus ( :) ) the car is not being exposed to any moving risk, is it?

It's due to amount of time we spend on the road, even if it aint in MY car, there's still considered to be a greater risk of having a blamr worthy crash or what have you, mechanic are high risk too..

Just checked the TD on compare the meerkat aswell, oddly, what I'm paying now is cheaper than the best price on there!

i always seem to get pawned for insurance to be honest, fucking pisses me off, though having the petrol engine (166bhp) is half what having the TD engine was (92bhp, from the factory, if your lucky). Though moving to Coventry put the rate up a fair bit, expecailly when you consider i went from student to employed, and now its kept in a garage!
