Ha ha........keep the Valver dude - you have to - it's the law....cos I said so! TBH, I'm not convinced doing a rack with the car in the air makes it a whole lot easier. Better perhaps than scrabbling in the dirt of Docs barn floor but it's just a twat of a job full stop. I think dropping the front subframe a touch might be helpful

:) On a 2 leg lift you are able to get at things better Bandit and with the rear subframe bolts out ........Yes it's still a twat but you won't end up with a bad back for weeks.
Others shouldn't be allowed to breathe.
Well! certainly no where near tyres anyway.

I dont mind crawling around on my back, been doing that for years, the issue with it these days is the crumbling neck.
I can get away with spending about 30 minutes on my back under a car, thereafter my neck will swell, bruise and hurt like fuck for a couple of weeks on meds.
No muscles left in it see...

But that's my point Phil, you can't get at the awkward bits any better whether you're under the car on your back or if it's in the air. The twatness of the job is not, IMO, being on your back or your feet, but the sheer bloody awkwardness of it - like nearly 1 hour to undo one union!!!!!!!!!! But, I hadn't considered Doc's neck and bodily issues.
Doc if you need a hand mate, give me a shout, I'll graze my knuckles for you dude!

tis ok, I'll manage mate, although I apppear to have slightly broken my sternum at the moment, so it might have to wait for a while....

I have a cunning plan... I think I'm going to undo the pinion from the rack, and leave the pipes attached!

When I swapped the one on the meteor I used to 2 leg in the workshop I was running.

I found it a lot easier physically that's all, I remember doing one years ago, on my back.
and my neck was fucked for a fortnight.

Sidewall repairs should really only be vulcanised (specialist repair, not sticking an aeroplane on them!) which involves heating a patch on. Once done and tested it will be the strongest part of the tyre and you won't get any more trouble from it.

tis finding someone that will actually repair it though...

2/3rds of the way up the sidewall should be no bother to a tyre repair company who specialise in vulcanised repairs.

Basically they use a special patch which is heated on with a mandrel (spelling?) and once it's adhered it actually becomes the strongest part of the tyre.
I don't know how many companies still do this, I worked for one and we fixed all kinds of sidewall repairs. The only potential no-no is if the split is too big or too far down the sidewall.

Miles away I know but D&M Tyre Repairs, Hooton Works, Hooton, Cheshire are worth a go. Failing that type something like 'vulcanised tyre repairs Bristol' into Google and see if there's a local place that can do it mate.
