 I 1/2 expected a huge boner to appear from that monkey you posted.

Lights look great. If they were white of course, you could call them driving lamps and they would be legal anytime.

I'm thinking of rewiring the initial feed to the lamps via a SPDT switch so that the feed can be selected either to be either from sidelights or Main beam. When selected from main beam they can be used legally as driving lights. That makes them useful for the dark & twisty country roads especially the narrow ones with ditches alongside.
As fogs they are mainly an ornament except the once in a blue moon that fog is legally thick enough to use them.

I have the Picasso exec which has them as standard and they are fitted quite low down. I can switch them on with either sidelights or dipped head or mainbeam and they give a really good spread of light widthwise also filling in the dark spot under the mainbeam. Like you said great for country road driving. 8)

Are they not called 'High Intensity forward lights' these days? They are just as usefull in high down pours as in fog, on the motorway! I use my front and rear 'fogs' all the time.

I truly hope not...
Agreed though, I don't know if the name has changed but I find on some cars putting the front fogs on with main beam helps give a better spread of light nearer the car. Whether that is technically illegal who knows - the Highway Code says something about only using them when visibility is less than 100m. Which I suppose it is when it's dark...

Spot on there Mat. The busies will do you for having FOG lights on when there is non. Fog lights were always yellow as white light is useless in real fog which we no longer get. The reason being white light just reflects back at you making things worse not better. The law are more concerned with rear facing fogs (which we never had before) being mistaken for brake lights, especially in heavy rain on the Mway.

Yes, i should have quantified that, i use them quite often, when it is suitable to do so. Then again i am in a right chav mobile these days so i suspect no one would notice if they where on 247.

You can get visibility below 100 yards on the motorway in spray, or heavy snow, or when its hammering it down, it certainly isn't just fog you need to worry about and hence why they aren't actually fog lights, its just the name we all use. I use any lighting on the car to deter people from hitting me, simple as that. If the tit behind me thinks i have my brakes on then thats fine by me, but if he can't see me because its hammering down with rain, he's doing 120+, and i have no lights on, then who is to blame there, i wouldn't be putting the blame on the guy doing 120mph, it might be a stupid thing to do, but surely i'd have to submit myself to the darwin award?

I think the issue with not being able to spot when the person in front is braking as he already has his fog lights on is smaller nowadays, as most (all?) new cars have the third brake light somewhere. I'll put them on when I feel they are needed, but if someone is behind me at a distance close enough to see me without, I'll turn 'em off again. (Probably not really practical on a busy motorway though...)

That's where my idea of using the changeover switch to the main beam feed comes in. This makes them legal as driving lights as they extinguish when you go to dipped beam when that is selected. :D

You can get visibility below 100 yards on the motorway in spray,
Those really thick freezing smogs we used to get in the 60's had visibility down to 6 to 8 ft. On a couple occasions, later in the evening, around 8ish, you could stretch your arm out and couldn't see your fingers.

Once, when I was broken down, I got a lift into trafford park, in Jacks dormobile, the one with the flat front.
We got all the way home (19 miles in 2 hrs) with Jimmy hanging out of the sliding door directing Jack close to the kerb and warning of parked cars.
We drop Jimmy off 1st, then as we drive off, Jack goes over the kerb, across some spare land and into someones gable end.
Well it was funny at the time :)
Another time, in Bert's van this time, we set off home at 5 and the fog was not too bad, about 25 yards, but the temp was down to - 10.
We got as far as Atherton and the rad boiled. Apparently it boiled because the bottom 1/2 of the engine had frozen. We had the imposition to have to wait in the pub we were stopped outside of, till his dad turned up with a tow. 8)

might i suggest putting a couple of screws into the fog light surrounds to hold them firm into the bumpers if you dont already have them. I had an incident with a plastic bumper and fog inserts where i pressed the bottom of the bumper against a big rock in a welsh car park and it popped one fog out. Heard it go at the time and it went straight back in. Can't remember if they where meant to have screws and i didn't fit them or they just never had a decent attachement.

I was going to fit some to K39. The ones I got off Smiffy's ZX, but I think they are too far gone. Although looking at Charlie's I may have a go at them now. :)

They never had screws as standard, but I agree, I did that with TFB before it got P2'd since I was sick of the fucking lights falling out.
I've seen others use zip ties round the grill above, but that looks shite.
