Here's a crazy question!
Can you take a set of 5 brand new suspension spheres on a plane?!
They contain pressurized nitrogen from day 1, correct? If so I assume you definitely can't carry them on, if for no other reason than they look like mega hand grenades. But I should be able to check them in. Yes? Errrrrr.
Qantas couldn't answer this question, and neither could any new Citroen service centre. So... over to you guys. Am I gonna die?

Re: Here's a crazy question!
If you take them on as hand luggage, then yes you will die, cos some arse will assume you're a terrorist and beat you to death!
That's IF you get them on board and remain alive in the process!
In the hold, well, here's my theory - but don't blame me if the aeroplane bay blasts open and you die though!
They are what, 400 or 500 bar? So, by going up to 35,000 feet with next to no pressure, you're effectively increasing the pressure inside the sphere by one bar which is nothing. So, according to the laws of Bandit, they'll be fine!
Why the heck are you travelling with spheres by plane anyway? You'll get hauled over the coals at the airport!

I agree with Bandit, but...
Tell me, is your suspension rather firm at those pressures?Bx Bandit wrote:They are what, 400 or 500 bar?!

Re: Here's a crazy question!
Even so he's right. The difference in pressure is negligable compared to what is in the spheres.
Ring DHL. They are bound to have transported pressurised stuff and should know what they do.

Re: Here's a crazy question!
The question shoudl be, is the container capable of withstanding high external pressure. And the answer is YES. I think you'll have more trouble trying to explain to customs what it is and why there Xray machine can't penetrate it!

D'oh! That's CC aint it! Errr, 45/55 bar then! but yeah, I extra bar is negligable!mat_the_cat wrote:I agree with Bandit, but...Tell me, is your suspension rather firm at those pressures?Bx Bandit wrote:They are what, 400 or 500 bar?!

Re: Here's a crazy question!
If anyone's ever been tempted to try such a thing, it might be JohnW on Aussiefrogs. He gets around the globe quite a bit. I suspect he's more likely to have stuffed rare Renault 8 bits in his hand luggage though....

Re: Here's a crazy question!
I know they can be air freighted, sicne I've sent sphere's to Oz before, but obviously as a parcel, not via hand luggage!

Re: Here's a crazy question!
Conclusion? I had them posted. It cost me another 100 Euros but at least I'm alive to tell the tale and my car parts are somewhere between here and France, I think.
It's funny how little help anybody was (apart from you guys of course). Rather than giving any answers they all just said "maybe not". Asses.
