Pressure relief valve. The plunger had jammed, and TBH looks a little scored. After cleaning it up, reassembling and priming I got oil pressure again, but a top end rattle :-( Which was there on and off before - I don't yet know whether it's permanently rattly now. I was suspecting a sticky valve lifter, so will try a flush and some fresh oil (current oil is probably rather thin and petrol contaminated).

Didn't go much above idle with no oil pressure, so hoping not too much damage done as it's probably engine out just to drop the sump! Pondering that if it IS low oil pressure, rebuilding the pump with a modified case so it can use the later, taller rotors for more volume/pressure.

Filter is on the bulkhead with a remote filter head. REALLY hope it doesn't need a rebuild...

If it was only ticking over, big engines are more forgiving than littluns 8)

Update: rebuilt oil pump with bigger rotors, new PRV, and a rebuilt distributor too after I found out it was completely missing the advance weights!
Running beautifully now; oil pressure when cold is only a little higher but it barely drops at hot idle.

Ah err yes. Dizzies work better with advance weights. I thought you would have spotted that when you checked out the earth wire beneath them, I told you about, when it kept cutting out after you accelerated.

The last bit of road on the vid? if you turn right at the end, are you just short of your place? I seem to recognise it.

Earth wire on the dizzy wasn't used with the electronic ignition, so I didn't look too deeply in there. Although the giveaway was the fact you could rotate the baseplate to any position you liked within about 45 degrees, and it would stay there!

Made it to Stratford OK, and after tickling it along at 60 mph all the way I got 29 mpg. Looks like I can actually afford to floor it!

Yes, you are spot on with the road Phil.

I've had this, I don't know what you would call it, ability, to pick up surroundings even if I only went there once.

The number of times, when she's been map reading, I've said, we should be over there, I've lost count of.

And she won't map read any more either.

Latest bit of progress is that I've been tidying up the boot seal lip, which needed a fair bit of welding..pretty much an entire day making up patches and letting them in. It's booked in for paint at the beginning of March, and I need to get the rear screen out before then to weld up a small hole right next to the glass.

After much deliberation, I think I've finally settled on a colour - whaddya reckon?

Nice choice, and close enough to the original that you wont have to have a fight with the DVLA

I quite like this colour at the moment (though not the barried defender)

Its a lot less shiney than your MG though

Looks similar, TBH there are so many shades and they all look different depending on the light and camera/monitor settings that who knows? I'm just after something that's slightly darker than it is now, so I've ordered a bit and will rattle can part of the bonnet with it to see...

I managed to sell my dead welder today for £50, to a guy wanting it for spares for his old one! Hopefully will get 30 quid or so for my sandblaster too, every little helps.

LOL!
I don't really NEED it, and I'm not fussed if I don't win it, but yeah, it would be nice to have, and I never have gotten around to visiting!
That said, if I do win it I'll be fucked if I'm coming for it until the weather is at least 10°!

Well say what you mean doc, if you don't want to go say that, don't try to blame the weather by setting un realistic targets
