BX roof trim

Post by mat_the_cat » 01 Jan 2012

You know the strips that run front to back under the roof bars on the estate? Are they bonded on to the body and can they be removed intact? I've got a spot of rust which will be difficult to clean up and paint with them in situ, but would prefer not to bugger them up completely by trying to remove them if they're likely to break...

I believe they're stuck on with the same glue as the bodykit on the valver, heat should do the trick!

they are indeed stuck on with Citroen's own Sikaflex. Heat or a cheese wire, or a hot wire if you're really flash!

there not just stuck down though, they have tabs that slot into the body work (and are glued in place), it is near impossible to get these tabs out in one piece!

Hmmm, might give it a miss unless I REALLY have to....I've not stripped back the paint yet so don't now how far back under the paint the rust has spread.

[chin] You can never tell Mat. I've seen them like that and no rust on the rest of the post.
But also with it raddled with the stuff.

Well, I reckon I'm going to have to cut out at least the area you can see rust on, to butt weld a patch in. Can't use an angle grinder at the moment as the ground is too wet to let Graham out of his stable into the fields, and for some reason he gets a little jumpy if I start using power tools next to him...

mines going there, I had intended to remove the strips and break the tabs off, refit with sikaflex and forget about it, they'll never need the tabs with sikaflex!

Managed to do it without removing the strips - it had extended very little under the paint.

Found another few pinholes or very thin areas once I attacked the rust but a quick blob sorted them
