Pump setting and-a-knocking...
Does aanyone have a guide for setting up the Bosch pump? Mine smokes quite badly (bad enough for MOT failure) when pushed and is also not quite returning the MPG i'd expect. It starts and run's perfectly and doesn't use oil so i think it's just a bit on the rich side.
Secondly, i've traced the spurious rear-end knocking:
Those who are aware, the rear suspension cylinder (ram) is mounted into a circular plate in the subrame (with the metal pipe in the side and the sphere on the end). Now, when going over bumps my cylinder is knoking up and down in that plate (it's only about 2mm movement) which is causing the knocking.
So, there's nothing technically wrong with it and normally when under pressure the cylinder would be so rammed up against the plate it wouldn't move but this one's just being an arse.
I've tried wedging things in between the sphere and the subframe lip below it but nothing's working. Are bright ideas?
Cheers.

Not quite what you want, but hows this for rather interesting?

EDIT
Actually this might have what you want?
http://gnarlodious.com/vanagon/bosch_pu ... _Pumps.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I know for fact that to do it perfectly you need a DTI and probably an adjustable/magnetic base of some sort.

I've got a manual for the Bosch VE pump, I'll email it to you if I can find your address.

On the bOSCH there is a lead covered metering screw that you can't touch... well you can and it does reduce smoke.
I had a rattly sphere on the old RD , I cleaned round it then squirted silicon round it protects the inlet pipe from chafing too as there is little clearance round there.
If I remember rightly, the cylinder wasn't seated correctly. I only found out when I fitted a new bellows at the pushrod end.

Re: Pump setting and-a-knocking...
is the spring clip missing from the cylinder?
you can turn the fuelling down piss easy on a Bosch pump if it's just a fuelling issue, but if it's knocking then I'd retard the pump a tad, you *could* use a DTI, but I never bother anymore, just back the pump off till it sounds right!

Welcome back stranger
Yes the spring had come adrift on mine now you mention it
It was a bosch usit on mine and the fuel adjuster had a blob of lead I had to lose.
Whats the hybrid then??

Re: Pump setting and-a-knocking...
It's not the engine that's knocking, that's the suspension.docchevron132 wrote:is the spring clip missing from the cylinder?

Been through the Bosch manual and despite the fact that i know which screw i'm looking at it doesn't say whether to wind it in or out to reduce fuelling?

He's on about the suspension, its is retained by a spring that looks awfully like a cock and balls.

Re: Pump setting and-a-knocking...
As far as I can remember it's out to add fuel and in to reduce fuel same as on the petrol carbs.
