Guess what i saw at the tip today

Post by Vanny » 06 Jun 2012

I spied with my little eye a 1991 plate Citroen BX 16v Ph2, what i did drive there all by myself!

Just about managed to find a long enough break in the rain.

Heater tap is no longer leaking, which is nice, and the rubber lined boot made for a very quick wipe down of the mud.

Definitely need to change the 5th gear, don't fancy sitting at 70mph for more than 20 minutes with that drone. Clutch is looking pretty shagged, very very slippy. I had assumed i was just wheel spinning lots, but no, its the clutch (of totally unknown vintage, it came with the last donor!). Steering wheel isn't quite straight and has slipped in and onto the plastic console shroud making for nasty squeeky noises. Still need to sort the rear brakes probably filled with air, but have no bleed nipples! All in all, still love it, but only 30% confident with it.

Andy Missen that ended up with my BX, has a pair of front calipers in there somewhere I am pretty sure. The ones on K39 are in pretty good nick, so he might part with them

could probably drill the remains of the nipples out and fit new,
or, bleed the caliper via the hose, done that before!

Front brakes and nipples are fine, no problems, though the flexis are a bit, erm, well. Have had a go at getting the rear nipples out in situ, total fail. Need to pick up a set of rears from my parents tomorrow.

The clutch has me thinking 6 speed, can't do that till post wedding though.

well, you have the box.. may aswell shove it in, although I'd be tempted to play about with the ratios..

Play with the ratios on the 6 speed? I'm not sure there is much that can be done with them, the 6 gear gets in the way? Really need a spare box to build up a hybrid.

there's plenty you can do! AFAIK 6th gear is no taller than 5th on a GTi box?
Personally I'd up the top gear ratio for relaxed cruising only and keep the first 5 for grunt!
you can get the 6th gear cog set out then the end unbolts to give access to the rest I think
