Jeep Cherokee

Post by docchevron132 » 08 Jun 2012

Anyone know anything useful about the 4.0 high output petrol lump as found in the old Jeep Cherokee?

Like, is it any good, whats the power and torque curve like?

I keep seeing them everywhere, and I shouldn't imagine they are worth much, but the engine got me thinking about the ambulance..

Sodding awful as i recall one of the drivers on the HGV's having one. I think they're about 180bhp & 200lbft a thirsty as hell! I know it's a heavy motor but it was as gutless as Nick Clegg [coat]

See them regularly around the £600 mark.

Really shit torque profile, flat followed by very little, put your foot down wait an hour, start accelerating. The shifty autobox probably doesn't help t he feel, not sure if if the engine is any better off the car though.

Light travels quicker than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

FUCK!

hmm, see, a V8 would make the cab in the FG even less spacious.. I like the Jeep lump because it's a tad smaller in size than the 40E unit I have in it already but figured if it had a flat torque curve it would be ok.. the 40E is a beasty, torque curve of a diesel and very controlable power delivery..

Although I'm told the shed roof has finally given up and fucked off into the shed, so it may not matter anymore, the ambulance and 16valve might be rather flat!
