Braided Stainless Front ABS Flexies - ~£45 per set

After various chats with a number of suppliers, i think I've found some one who can make up new front brake pipes for ABS equipped cars in braided stainless pipes. The price will be around £25 each or £45 for a set (including delivery). This is based on ordering a single set, but might come down if i can get significant pre purchase interest to order in bulk.

I am definitely getting a set, and given that the cheapest I've found non braided is £22, this seems rather cheap.

If your interested then i'll be looking for a 50% deposit up front to secure your set, once i have a confirmed price.

So who wants em?

Only replaced mine last year, so probably not interested :( Although I'd like them! Are the fittings stainless too?

Might be worth advertising on BXC as well for a bigger market. I'd be inclined not to drop the price too much for bulk as if you're having to send out loads of them, it really does take up your time!

I will advertise on BXC, once i have something to hand, and it will be a first with cash basis. I'm a little concerned about getting left holding the baby as it where.

Not 100% on the fittings being stainless

I'd have thought if they are doing the pipes in stainless then they'd do the fittings in stainless aswell?

I'll take a set for Moby 2.
No good for Richie or Phoenix sadly..

Whenever I've bought stainless hoses for other vehicles they seem to keep the ones with plated steel fittings on the shelf, but the ones with stainless fittings are made to order. Do you know if the braiding is covered with sleeving or not? I've read that the unprotected braiding can allow grit between it and the PTFE liner which can wear it away over time. No idea whether that's likely to happen over a relevant timescale though...

Not sure Mat, will be worth an ask. I'm hoping they'll make up a sample/trial before mass prod.

One small hitch at the moment, lost the template you sent me way back when! ARGH. Think its in the loft with all the special valver parts. Will look tonight.

EPIC FAIL

The place recommended for them can't do them! The problem is the M9 x1.25 hole. 'Normal' brakes only go down as low as M10. They aren't able to make the ends and buy them in standard sizes in bulk, and just crimp the pipes in between.

So back to the drawing board a bit on this. It might mean that adapters need to be made up to take the M9 up to an M10, simple enough, but as i can't find a jobbing shop around here to make up a bolt, i doubt i'll get 100x adapters made up easily.

For now (as i have needs) i've simply ordered some non-ABS hoses and will have to bore them out.

Didn't you try the place I linked to who do ABS hoses? Something like Brake Parts International. Was early last year I think (shortly before I sent you my old one ;) )

I went to Earls as they came recommended from a shed load of different places. And i can't fault there service, just a shame they can't make up the missing component.

Brakes International only do pre made hoses, is that what you mean? They're over double the cost of the cheapest non ABS ones i've found, so for the saving i would rather just re cut the thread until i find someone with the skill to make up the pipes in braided hose

Aye, that's what I meant. Think I paid just over £40 delivered, so furry muff if you got the non ABS hoes cheaper.

Not sure there'd be enough meat on an M10 to M9 adaptor, but M12 might be a standard size to work with. Bit academic really if you can find anywhere to knock something up though :(

just gives more scope for buying a lathe IMHO just a little tidler mind. Was looking at Myford and Boxford prices yesterday, made my eyes water a little, then again for the little extra on top of the cost of a chinese one you can get a Myford 7.

8) Nah! I went for fully synth last time.
When I was at ProCo in charge of Eng,g I bought 2 small Bridgeports (single phase) very cheap from Sheffield uni.
When they dropped engineering after I left they were just left there until last year when the daft bastards scrapped them.
I would have loved to have got me hands on the smaller one as there is no end to the stuff you can re manufacture with a lathe and one O they.

I'm trying to get in contact with HEL

http://www.brake-lines.co.uk/hel-brake- ... i-16v.html

The picture of the connectors on the blue pipes certainly seem correct for the BX, but i can't fathom why they seem to be a meter long and why there would be 4 in a set! If there where 2 of them, and the price was closer to £30, they would be a good investment!
