Merry Christmas to all, I hope your managing to get your BX's out for a drive!

I met up with some friends the other day for a pootle about in Derbyshire. It wasn't intended as a pootle, but the Merc didn't like the snow!

Your mate (with the Mk2 Cavalier) is clearly a person of great taste.

Sounds like fun, I'd like to be actually driving rather than working on cars!

Ah, but your achievements must be rather satisfying too. :D

oddly, I'd really very much like to be able to work on them again, especially since the entire fleet bar Richie is dead so I can't drive them even if I wanted to, and even Richie is dissolving at a rate that is quite alarming..

dad had an FE, in metallic green. I fucking loved that car. He gave it away.. :(

 That's about right. The FE wasn't as popular as it had become very americanised and oversized / weighted which meant even the 2300 was a tad underpowered. I remember sticking a 3300 straight six in one, complete with Powerglide slushbox. The first FE's had this engine as an option to the slant 4 but withdrew Ventoras after a year. Thats why I got the Manta, well that and a real good deal and that experimental g/box. What it really could have done with was a V8, but we were running into fuel crisis times just about then :(

if I could find an FE, and shove a 402 V8 in it, I would!
Always loved the FE, looked like a 72 Riv that had been on a diet!

 It would fit, no problem.
Have you seen Red Victor 1 on the tube? It's an FD with a 9 litre lump in it with about 4 turbos
0-60 in 1 second. It's still the fastest road legal motor on the planet 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I have, and it's lunacy! Not quite standard under the hood though! I think 500BHP from an LS3 V8 should do me amply!

There was even more room under the FE's bonnet (or does it become a hood when it gets a V8) so should fit easily enough.

As they were RWD the engine mounts will only need modifying a bit 8)

overhead valve. WTF?!
  I once had to explain what OHC stood for, to I guy I talk to in Texas. He was fuckin amazed, said he understood and then asked me where the push rods went if the cam was up there 8)

He also wouldn't believe me whe I told him how fast trains went in Europe

He was probably worried about the Hobo's falling out of the boxcars!

Or maybe he was an Arlo Guthrie fan listening to the timescale of the "Spirit of New Orleans".

it still amazes me that the yanks are churning out monsterous V8's that out out less power than a shitty little european 4 pot..
Although there are aspects of it all I like too. Got an Impala with a dead engine? No problem, just roll into any Chevvy dealer and buy a new lump, it'll bolt right in.
Need a new chassis for a 1931 Model A Ford? Also no problem!
Over here, need a glove box for a car that went unchanged for years in old in millions just 20 years ago? Tough.
