Haha, Specsavers? If you think the Ka is iny way good looking then I'm afraid you're too far gone for opticians and should start ordering braille books and talking newspapers.
The Ka is incredibly ugly and extremely badly made and if ever a car was built down to a price and not up to any noticeable quality it's the Ka. Hideously ugly, horribly built and just a pile of utter wank.

woah Tom everyones entitled to there view , this aint the BXC afterall.

Please dont think I dislike the KA just because you have one ,I havent met you yet so will reserve judgement

I dont like turd polishers but that hasent put me off of the BX,

its nothing personal and yes I have driven more than one totally agree about the leather seats and despite what has been said the street ka is the best ,certainly where handlings concerned .

I just dont like it in the same way as I dont like the corsa, lupo, polo or the saxo . basically I dont like many small cars , they serve there purpose ,just not for me.

being a big person with a family of teenagers they just dont have a place in my life.

christ my sons ax is about as small as a car as I can use and I wouldent want that as a daily.

I havent really liked any fords since my escort rs1600i and mk2 granada days.

I dont like the jelly mould shapes they used , the tacky switchgear or the cheap plastic .
even todays fuckarse and mondildo dont do it for me.

I also dont think it helps that my wife worked for the ford warranty department , ( which means I have driven every ford produced in the uk over the last 12 years as part of "her " get to know your product experience) I am sure the neighbours thought we had won the lottery having a different brand new ford outside every few days  .

However if you knew some of the shortcuts ford took to get cars on the road you would probably have a negative view toward them as well.

all car manufacturers have there problems I know but when the wife came home with some of the horror stories ford had put on the road it was quite shocking ,

few people will know that a lot of mondeos were sent out with the wrong spec calpers and pads because the correct ones were unobtainable for a while or that loads of foci ( is that the plural for focus) went out with the wrong rating alternator again because of deadline versus parts supply disputes.

so enjoy your KA just dont expect everyone to like them

I dont mind the styling, I quite like small cute cars despite being a fat bastard and a half. Im really taken by the Smart and its quite Tardis like inside (so long as you dont want to carry more than a 5K bag of potatoes in the boot), I would gladly have a Mk1 Fiesta if I could find one that was
a) mint
b) less than a grand

For now though Im quite taken with the K11 jelly mould - bland to look at, bland to drive, but comfortable enough and frugal.

We have a Zafira for family lugging about, and apart from some ECU issues its pretty good at what it does - Im waiting on the Cheif Execs opinion though on whether or not I can have the ECU reflashed with the latest software update that is supposed to get around the problems that the early CDTi donkeys have. TBH I have the opinion that all modern cars are crap from a long term ownership point of view, or indeed all cars are crap full stop - I mean houses you buy, they generally go up in value and you can gererally get bits for them forever, but cars, you spend loads, they break, you cant get bits after say 10 years (or less) and they go down in value. I begrudge spending money on them to be honest. Perhaps thats the Yorkshireman in me talking there, but I tend to listen to him when it comes to spending huge amounts of cash. I also have this rather weird way of looking at things, I work out how much it will cost me per year if it lasts for `10 years, so the decking I have just put down will cost me £36 a year if it does 10 years, the telly £1.40, and so on. Perhaps Im a bit strange...

The Ka is OK to drive, but dont know whether I would actually go out and look for one, not when I can buy a taxed and tested example of the K11 for a couple of hundred.

Billy, thinking about all the other 'super mini's' that where out at the time the KA was launched, where they not all a bit bland and same ish? they all kinda looked like;

/---\
|o__o_)
from the side and
|----|
|I__I|
from the rear, the KA sure as hell doesn't look like anything else then or since!

Vanny set me straight, Vanny set me straight :( :( :(
If I am a "cocky little twat" then you give dumbing down a bad name by your ignorance. The conceit that goes with it, you being one of the best engineers and workmen I have ever seen is further reflection of your excellence. Having myself insulted Jane (by implication), that is the best response you can give to a properly argued point. Not worth my time to banter with you for you are an amazing person from whom i have a lot to learn!

Hey?

Vanny lots of cars are bland but being one motherfucker of an ugly piece of shite like the Ka doesn't make it good or worth having. If the criteria is just to be different then someone might just as well nail some planks of plyboard down the side, have square wheels and crush the roof with a Hiab.
Look at the Ka, it's a truly horrific looking things that has built in self rusting, self destruct steering racks, hideously ugly bumpers, cheap shit plastics and an utterly pathetic, gutless, rattly ashmatic wank heap of an engine.
Ford allegedly built them to compete against cheap Far East rivals and it all honesty a Kia Pride with one cylinder down would appear a better bet.
As said before that's just my opinion but honestly I wouldn't touch one except to drag it on to the back of the truck and weight the worthless piece of shit in.
I truly cannot think of a worse small car out there and I'd rather disppear in a cloak of anonimity in a Corsa/Fiesta/Kia/205/106/Pride, even a fucking Rover 100, than even be seen in Ka.

Marty: I'd disagree that all new cars are crap, far from it. I love smoking round in old bangers but I love my modern(ish) car equally. Cars don't drop too much money if you buy wisely but most will indeed depreciate.

Its just I like stuff to last forever, and its easier to keep old less complicated tin on the road than it seems too be wit newer tin. You know me and spending money. I do think the Ka rusts alarmingly for such a modern car. Mind you the m1cra has rusty sills and pipes, but for a ton im not complining - hell it has a list of fauts as long as my pecker... I still like it.

Micras are coffin dodger-tastic! Except the latest ones which I'm told are pretty wank and allegedly share the same platform as the Clio. But I bet even they're a million times better than a Ka.

Has this thread lost the plot? Or am I just not getting it?

I actually had to look twice at that pink thing posted by Marty to realise it was a KA!

So, is there a new shape KA then?
Oh, and what the hell was KA KA2 and KA3 all about?
Some had body coloured bumpers I think, and they looked better than the ones that had grey plastic I thought.
Not a car for me either way, I do say they go round corners alarmingly well, but I find them uncomfortable after a while.
Not that thats much of a judgement on the KA, I fond nearly all cars uncomfortable after a while.
Including dads panzerwagen, and that was after 3 seconds!

auto express say :
The newcomer will replace the original 12-year-old Ka, and shares its underpinnings and engines with the Fiat 500. What’s more, it’s being built alongside the hugely successful Italian model at Fiat’s plant in Tychy, Poland.

so its a fiat 500, which is a Panda - buy a panda instead

Fords new Sport Ka is basically an Arbarath 500 - whichever is cheaper I woud be inclined to get - and I bet its the Fiat.

Well, looking at the top of this page has reminded and shown me that

(a) I'm wrong about it not being possible to bling or barry a Ka (exhibit #2) : it just doesn't happen quite so often

(b) I'm partial to certain larger derrieres, as well as many other things. However, death frequently comes to males who try to express their heartfelt appreciation of this feature to the opposite sex.

(c) How on earth does the original Ka pass the "does my bum look big in this test" for its many female drivers - unless it acts in some sort of compensatory way? Is it the automotive equivalent of a bustle dress?

The original Ka's shape is a bit like the original Fiat Multipla - a case of love it or loathe it. A Multipla's probably cheaper by now...though I haven't looked lately.

The original Multipla (Based on the Fiat 600) came out in or around 1957 and was a looker really. Its a shame Fiat had to screw up what would have been an acceptable design 40 years later when the 'new' multipla was launched.

Touché Vanny. Until I spotted the front suicide doors I thought for a moment it had only 2 doors for 6 people!

I also like the look of the Seicento "Jolly" (yes, I checked out the 50s Multipla first on Wikipedia, and that was pictured underneath it).
