Birds

Post by Vanny » 27 Apr 2009

Oh bugger, i go away for a few weeks and the birds have moved into my nice dry garage :( Poo!

Next seems empty, and i've blocked off the entrance. Will have to hope there are no eggs in there.

Anyone any ideas on when birdlings hatch and fuck off outa my garage?

Birds are ok mate, we have many of them up the farm.
It's rats that are an issue.

As for hatching, well, depends what type of bird related winged things they be really.

Never, if the parents can't sit on the nest because they can't get in because of the blocking-off. I seem to recall they need heat to develop further.

fucking birds,
well been onto the RSPB/Wildlife trust, and a lovely old dear has told me i'm screwed, or at least i am for the next 4 weeks. Black birds (i assume its a black birds nest as there are two of the fuckers desperately trying to get in) incubate for 14 days, then fuck off out of the nest after another 14 days. Lets assume that we are on like the first day, then i should be able to use the garage in about 4 weeks! Joy! Guess who has learnt not to leave a bird sized hole in the end of the garage!

Yeah, but dont the eggs need constant heat? Its not like a switch on switch off thing - if they go for a day and go cold dont they die? In which case the blackbirds will have just dead eggs to sit on - let em in, let em find out they are carked and they will probably bugger off and annoy someone else - that or chase you and peck your eyes out and make your kife hell....

Vanny - you may also have had a close call if you took a shower in an American motel recently..... or went up tall buildings......or had light planes buzzing you........

phew, that was close, i took a shower in an American Hotel least week, thank god it wasnt a motel! I was also on the ground floor, and the only runway we went past had 747s etc landing. Looks like i got away with it!

On the plus side, the mummy bird has returned, had to get some bits out to cut the lawns, shrubs, trees etc and she was sat there on the nest so i think all is good. Gonna be a big clean up op in the near future i reckon!

:) Blackbirds always come back to the same spot each year, so when they've gone patch up all entrances and put a bird box in one of your trees. Simples................................ 8)
