Height corrector fun
Had a flat tyre the other day, and and the rear height corrector has been erratic since (reluctant to rise).
It's ages since I took a HC all to bits (and I can't remember if I fixed it or it was a total-destruction dissection mission) but I seem to remember a load of tiny discs with a microscopic hole through them, and it is my theory that there is a load of shite in them. (Linkages is fine; the XM didn't have the shite set up the Xantia suffered).
Having only one car, I don't want it stuck up the ramp after I fuck up the HC, so basically I was wondering if anyone can remember if th HC has these discs in (or if I have imagined them which is quite possible) and if so I can take them and the rest of the innards out for cleaning without disaster.
Ta lads.
(Still no proper internet FFS )

Re: Height corrector fun
Nah Vanny, the ones I'm picturing are fucking microscopic (like about 4mm dia). Another possibility would be if someone has a spare I could experiment with...
Symtoms are: Will go high/intermediate/low on manual lever, but not so keen on normal. Clears after a couple of miles, but response still somewhat lazy/dulled.
It's entirely my own fault, I boasted about the car never being any trouble the other day
Thanks Father, if you do find the image that would be most helpful. My internetting is greatly restricted by having to access via phone...

Re: Height corrector fun
YES! It's coming back to me; I think the little discs live under the plug visible on the housing to the left of the piston bore. The question may now be rephrased to 'can you get the little fuckers out without destruction'. I note GSF no longer seem to list HCs..
I'm sure I could rebuild one, it's just a case of whether it's quick and easy or not...

The pic in the above link makes me think that the plug may be removed with a rod with a slot cut in it

Re: Height corrector fun
yes, the discs can be removed without destruction, and if you remove one or two, it makes the suspension a bit more floaty / supple!

Re: Height corrector fun
Yes I've taken them apart and cleaned everything with petrol, then put them back together with no problems. Just make sure you lay the bitz on a sheet of paper in order.
I never tried leaving any out though Doc. Was that something you read or one where you had some bitz left when you finished

I read about Aerodynamica doing it on his CX, and thought "hhmmm, that sounds interesting" so gave it a go, result = much floatier Citroen style ride.
