Vino (mat)

Post by Philhod » 16 Jan 2011

I'm happy to announce that the wine I brewed back in October went down very well.
Out of 24, 6 white, 6 red and 12 rose, I have one white, no red and 3... no... make that two
rose left.
Methinks it's time to get some serious brewing done. I rated the last lot no better than OK so if anyone has any kit recommendations I'm all ears....err well I have 2 anyway, even if they don't work too well

Well, I'm willing to do some sampling if you wish...purely for quality control purposes obviously. :D

:) Obviously....I'll save you a bottle from the next batch for the next meet up.

By the way, the SG for the white gave me an alcohol content approx 15%!! The others were around 12. 8)

Don't know about wine kits mate. My Dad makes a mean Damson wine from scratch, and believe it or not (and he got this from the French) he infuses it with Hawthorn (not sure if leaves/twigs/flowers) but it adds a delicious flavour. His Damson wine is about 15% too, maybe a tad more but not as much as port. The Hawthorn adds a sort of Marzipan flavour - really fucking nice

I think they use the flowers Bandit. I used to use me own fruit years ago. Unfortunately you need certain enzymes and extra pectin with fresh fruit, that I don't have access to anymore. That and the fact that it isn't ready to drink for a year after you put it down.
Kits today are much better that 20 years ago, the outcome of your wine has more to do with the right yeasts, steady temperatures, the cleanliness of your whole operation and somewhere nice and cool to store it for a couple of months, for it to finish. 8)

you can get sugar with added pectin - apart form that I'm in the dark dude.

This reminds me of being somehwre between 6 and 10 years old.

My Mum & dad brewing vats of wine and we (my sister & I) were not allowed in the room, only I thought fuck that, and went in anyway, but being a clumsy twat I stumbled and put me gert foot in a bucket of wine and tipped the fucker over

Boy was I in the shit!
