TT
WOW!!! Just watched the TT preview. Those on bike shots are brilliant. I wish I could still do that, on todays machinery.
They were going on about going through Kirk Michael at 180 mph! Bloody Hell. That's 100 faster than we used to do.
My fastest lap average was 85. That was in 1963 on a Bonnie. (Triumph 650).
Mind you I wasn't much slower the year before on a 350 Douglas Dragonfly (78)

Re: TT
Been watching all the TT build up stuff this week. Great stuff. If you love bikes you cant help but be drawn into the TT. And Chief, can i just say, Guy Martin is one determined scary looking fella with the old race face on.
OK, so i've got some stuff, some of it goes, some of it doesnt, some of it never will again!

Re: TT
Guy is one of my favorite riders. Does it for fun. He's a diesel mechanic during the week.
He gets really embarassed being in the limelight.
He should have won the senior last year.
I love those bike veiw sequences, it's just like being on one, unlike the car shots which always look sort of remote.
The speed is incredible though, I mean we thought we were fast but these guys are averaging 50 mph faster

Highlighted in Red! (Or maybe it looks too straightforward?)Philhod wrote: coz I don't know what he's on about with regard to my quoted comment.
Douglas's Factory was based in Kingswood , Bristol. Now I don't know where Smiffy lives but I expect it's Kingswood?smiffy wrote:Made just 100 metres away from my front door!Philhod wrote: Mind you I wasn't much slower the year before on a 350 Douglas Dragonfly (78)

Yep, what they said!
If you look at street map showing kingswood in Bristol, I live on Hanham Road, and Douglas Road is just a little further down. There is even a new housing developement on Dragonfly Close....
Some of the original factory buildings are still there.
It's now occupied by Knor Bremse, who make air braking systems for heavy trucks and buses.

Re: TT
Now see! I read that totally differently.
I had completely forgotten the location connection and read that you had managed only to get 100 yards from your front door on something.......Ho Hum......
They were a great machine though, horizontal twin. The one I rode wasn't mine though, It was a Manx +10 version, my mate Norman had.
His dad owned a coach firm and the coach painters painted it cream and then lined it out in green with a dragonfly motif either side of the tank as a continuation of the line.
Shame they went the way of all brit stuff Smiffy as they were a great bike to ride.
I posted once before of my having a slight accident with it and driving into the pub in Glen Helen.
Err...wasn't offered a pint though
