Failed main high pressure line
In September 2013, on returning from a trip to the tip, i noticed steam coming out from under the bonnet. Turns out the car was oiling its internals with very high pressure hydraulic fluid.
This pipe has had some serious abuse at its gone from one engine to another, so hardly a surprise to find it had fractured on a bend.
New one ordered from Pleides and a spare from Kitch to use as a template and i'm back up and running!
Somewhere in there is the damn pipe
New, ruptured, template
Bit damp under there. Poor precious LHM, oh well dont need to do a fluid change now!
Took the opportunity to swap out the old oil pipes for silicon ones from Baker BM
Not the greatest access. I might add that i have significant changed the garage layout since this incident!

Re: Failed main high pressure line
I had one of the full length ones fracture where it vanishes round the rear radius arm.
It wierdly looks like a green gas its so fine. I just ordered one ready made from Rigbyes, £11.75. Mind you that was about 8 years back.

Ah i know the one you mean Phil, i had that one let go on this car 5 years back now, ended up changing the whole length on the street outside the Liverpool house. It looks like green smoke until you breathe it and it sticks to your mouth. I wish they would sweeten LHM a little!

Re: Failed main high pressure line
had it actually fractured or was it pin holed? Never seen it on a 16v but diesels can pin hole the HP pipe on the first bend from the pump if there's any shit in the LHM system. It gets fired at the bend and acts like a grit blaster. Seen plenty of them go that way

Yeah your right Doc. The hole is minute that's why it looks like gas coming out. Well, that and quite a few bar in there.

Re: Failed main high pressure line
Fractured, there was a flat kink in the pipe about 6mm long, presumably from many on's and off's, the leak was probably a pinhole, but its hard to see in kink.
The outside of the pipe is clearly mechanically damaged, but it was on the underside of the pipe so it wasn't obvious.
Oh well, all sorted now.

Re: Failed main high pressure line
must be the season for it.. Dad's main feed pipe shit the bed yesterday. 4MM crack in it at the FDV end... Handily, I had shite loads of diesel spec HP feed pipes in stock, so it wasn't much effort to fix it for him..
