Re: New Car Options
FWIW, I chose the 2.0 Focus Ghia while I give the BXGti a renovation break. Performs excellently and I do love the instantaneous demist with it's electric windcreen in this mucky weather of late.

The new shape one is nassssty... and disappeared into obscurity. Old one had style and presence (and IMO looks more modern and less like a Proton)

I agree on the whole Proton thing, though the 2014 model is somewhere in between

Re: New Car Options
todays joy ride is the Freelander 2 TD4 SE.
As far as a company car goes, erm, i can't have it, because they dont make them anymore. But its not bad for an entry level land rover, pokey enough, absolutely huge and 40mpg without any effort.
I've a very long day of driving tomorrow so reserve the right to change my mind.
Biggest problem with it is that it makes me want a Disco3

Hell no, thems is terrible things. The Ds5 isnt too bad, but no boot space and while it has plenty of grunt just feels lethargic.
The freelander wasnt very comfortable and the more i drove it the more it seemed like a transit (with an uncomfortable seat)

Re: New Car Options
Is there anything special about it or just a standard VAG 1.6 diesel which is impressive for a 1.6, but generally uninspiring to drive. I dont think I will ever want another 1.6d after the current one, even in non ecomotive dull as dishwater variants. Maybe a super charger would convince me?mickey taker wrote:just bought a new skoda rapide 1.6 diesel

Re: New Car Options
I've never been too impressed with VW's 1,6 eitherIt's neither powerful or economic.
That's why I mentioned the Cit Cactus. Its performance figures are more than adequate in todays traffic but Jeez, you are looking at zero road tax and an average 80MPG. That's 800miles on it's little 45.5 litre tank

Re: New Car Options
true, although I'm getting to know Mk3 Mondeos quite well now, and despite some fucking awful design fuck ups, like the serpentine belt and tensioner setup, the shithouse water pump/ PAS pump and such, they are still fucking good cars IMHO
