In 1970s Swansea, "epic" or even "cowin' epic" (my personal favourite) were in fairly frequent usage...

Sounds Welsh to me....It was probably used to describe raids on flocks of sheep.

No - American 1950s doo-woppers had a phrase for that - "Ram-a-lamb-a-ding-dong", and I think they saw just as many sheep in downtown New York as you find in urban s***h Wales.
