xm world
right
are u all sitting comfy like cause this is gonna be a long one
one of the faults that on me xm was that the height selector wouldnt move
took the center console out to examine the mechanism in the car
and looked underneath where id found that half a sponge and a bit of blue paper had been shoved in between the connecting rod that leads to the rear height corrector
hmm, hmmmmmmmmmm
good news is now that the height selector now moves freely
but bad news is that only the rear end that moves up and down
front does not move at all
me thinks then the height corrector is knackered sooooooooo
tips and advice on removal, replacement, cleaning etc etc etc
but hang theres some more yet
cause i dont think i can just do this job without tackling these other faults at the same time
front end is as hard fuck, lhm is yellow and front suspension mounts are rusty under the rubber seal
so at the same time am going to change the lhm and spheres and take out, clean and seal the front suspension mounts
and probably do the drop links as well
any tips and advice will be more then welcome
i thought it was pointless just tryng to do the height corrector when all the other stuff needs doing as well

before front height was about ok but i always thought that it sat a wee bit low
and the front end is rock hard which ive put down to the spheres
when the car was at bandits we managed to move the height lever a bit and we did see the front end did rise, but not much
the gubbins bit is just confusing cause it was shoved in the rear section and the problem is with the front
and why when i brought it did they tell me about the seized lever if theyve only done it to hide another fault
i think ive just got to ignore what theyve done and work on what the car does or dosen't do
at the moment the cars on ramps and axle stands so im now gonna take the car off the ramps etc and move the lever and see what happens from "normal"

Yeah I agree you may as well do all the jobs..... but as W2G said if it was working......... What happens a lot on all the models with a height adjuster rod is, A, it seizes, somewhere, and then B, some daft cunt wrenches the lever backwards and forwards and bends the connecting rod at the point where it were seized. Ergo, back end answers the call, front end gets the wrong call and nothing happens.
Before anything else:- check rod along it`s length for any out of alignment
kinks / bends where they shouldn`t be and re align / lubricate liberally.
Oh make sure it hasn`t escaped any of it`s loops.
If all is not well after that, you know you have a system fault not a mechanical one (fuckin obvious) sorry goin t bed

Yes do the spheres, which will give you floaty suspension again, yes change the LHM, it should be green, not yellow, this will improve the suspension performance.
But you haven't mentioned the most important bit yet.....
CHANGE THE FRONT STRUT MOUNTS
You will be sorry if you dont!

See I always thought it was the chassis that went - the circly bit where the strut bolts onto...........it wasn't till Charlie discussed his.....erm.....mounts that I got confused and realised I'd had the wrong end of the stick!!!
....There he goes, one of God's own prototypes, a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production......too weird too live.....and too rare to die

and the other one although all still together, the top metal rim of the mount is just a bit too rusty for my liking
