I am REALLY REALLY REALLY into ZF 'boxes now Love 'em to bits I do...

So far, I've fully stripped 2 4HP20s, made up tools for them and learned exactly how they work and why mine called it a day at 150K.

Mine died from a burned out Clutch B. that's the one that drives the first sun gear in the epicyclic for 1st, reverse and 3rd gear. The friction material had gone and ended up as debris in the bottom of the casting. The filter was completely choked and the oil pump gear a little scored. It looked also as if the tips of the pump gear were flattened/worn. Not sure yet what caused what. Was it the filter becoming clogged over time reducing oil pressure that cused Clutch B to slip and burn or was it Clutch B slipping first that caused the filter to clog with its friction material.

Apart from that and a bit of wear on Brake F (planetary brake), the 'box overall is in remarkably good fettle

I thought I really loved diesel pumps and I do but autoboxes have really got me now...

Would love to get into a proper industrial sized one Doc... Give me a shout when the rebuild commences.

Almost certainly the filter first. It's how they all seem to go.
Once the pressure drops slippage occurs, then you get more shit bunging things up further and then it all just accelerates into a large box of neutrals.

A "C" pack rebuild kit (pretty much everything bar the casing) is,erm, a rather eye wateringly large amount of wonga!
They are fecking superb things to strip and rebuild though. The epicyclic is otherwordly large.
Infact when you've got it on the bench, I still cant see how it actually all fits in the casing!

I seem to recall reading about this in the Independent sometime back. Apparently the very serious catfish-pullers are easily recognised by their missing thumbs and fingers.

From my angling library - catfish introduced into the UK at Woburn Abbey, Chaydon(?), gravel pits near Leighton Buzzard (plenty of downhome boys there), and Tring. European catfish species in France, Spain, Kazakhstan, the Danube, and in the Volga - where they can grow to 90kg/200lb.

3 mobile internet. What they sell for laptops - 'cept this one is on my PC. USB wireless mobile modem.
£15 topup gives 3Gb data allowance for 30 days.

Have spent yonks of time online with this without using too much, but streamed Video starts to chew it up a bit - and it's not really fast enough for things like that (especially around 5-8 on a weekday when things grind to a halt). Still reckon I'll hve to find ways to use up the rump end of initial 3Gb before end of 30 days, so link on, Charlie!
