Erm.. can be used as a domestic heating monitor/controller (see comments in the first link), among various other things. That might be of interest here, if a little more high-tech than discussed.

Somebody said there were availability issues a while back, though maybe it was launched at an unfortunate time given that it seems to be manufactured in China.
