Still are designated as Crowns though......values depend upon the age. :)
Changing values

The face or denominational value of the crown remained as five shillings from 1544 to 1965. For most of this period there was no mark of value on the coin. From 1927 to 1937 the word "CROWN" appears, and from 1951 to 1960 this was changed to "FIVE SHILLINGS". After decimalisation in 1971, the face value kept its five shillings equivalent at 25 new pence, later simply 25 pence, although the face value is not shown on any of these issues.

From 1990, the crown was re-tariffed at five pounds (£5), probably in view of its relatively large size compared with its face value, and taking into consideration its production costs, and the Royal Mint's profits on sales of commemorative coins. While this change was understandable, it has brought with it a slight confusion, and the popular misbelief that all crowns have a five pound face value, including the pre-1990 ones.

Now that bit I didn't know and explains some confusion.

However my point was they have been known as 5 bob pieces in my lifetime, not crowns.
This now causes further confusion as my life started in 1944, crowns ceased in 1937, but apparently were not 5 bob's until 1951 [chin] [chin] :? 8)

I've been a bit of a lurker the past few days TBH. A few things to read (and have a good laff about - except the Cash for Clunkers stuff). Darlington though. I thought that's what you might've been on about... Well, although I'm still a BX owner I have just done something (as you know) a bit mad, like. XM-land here we come lol!

Well, the jury's out until I actually drive it away... but I must say I'm pretty excited about it. The BX, in the meantime is going to be repaired after a fecking dope-headed plank slid into it outside my house. At least he had the decency to own up.

If it's a good one that will be the moment you never look back! When I drove mine away the smile lasted all the way from Bristol to Durham, and I was disappointed to reach my destination!
