TU engines in BX's. And who knows about TU engines?
Basically my 14 is a TU.
saxos, 306, ZX's, bertie-lingos etc are too.
Do all these TU's fit my BX's gearbox?
You can see where im going with this right?
Will the AX GT carb manifold bolt up to the injection engine heads? I'd like to stay on carb if possible, look more standard, id just like it to say 14 on the back but have 1600 go

There's a bit about this over on BXC, Matt H was asking about it a while back. I think the consensus was yes but can't remember whether there were any other differences to the TU3S (AX GT/205 XS) engine other than carb/manifold

In short, yes.
Any TU engine will bolt to your box.
IIRC you can bolt an AX GT (or any carby) manifold to the head of an injected car as long is it's the mono point unit, the multipoint (albeit these are much later obviousley) head has some slightly different ports..

I like your idea, I've always wondered what a tuned TU would be like. I've had a 205 XS and a 1.6 GTi and although the GTi was slightly faster on paper, the XS was the nicer engine I though - more willing to rev and just felt sweeter. They also did a 1.6 TU in 306s, possibly some of the others. I think that wasn't a sporty model though.

I seem to remember some years back, Kitch put an AXGT manifold and carb on a BX14, and it did go like hell! Of course, as long as it's not the early Visa type 1.4 engine....

That 1.6 Meteor I had was a flying machine but I'm not into petrolly stuff so I don't know which engine it was.
Soon had it out anyway and fitted a proper engine (XUD 19 )

Phil your engine isnt a TU mate, i cant remember what it is though, cos im rubbish.
I may just try the AX GT car and manifold first then (if i can find one) and decide after that.
Cheers folks.
I bought a mk5 cortina today, do i need to hide in a croner here now?

To be honest considering it was cheap its quite straight, good long test, it will need a tickle with the MIG on the inner drivers side wing, but has been fairly well cared for. I just faniced some RWD fun. Bushes, well, its a 'tina. they need doing anually like

Poly bushes FTW! I got sick of doing 'em every year on the Stellar (which is basically a re-bodied Cortina). Easier to fit too.

Re: TU engines in BX's. And who knows about TU engines?
I've welded up about 17 of these over the last 10 years. Inner wings Round the leg towers and engine mounts.
Boot floor, top hat section underfloor just about anywhere along its length., but specially round where the 4 rear bushed links attach. Rear wheelarches , down towards the sills if there are any. Btm of doors. front lower slam panel (this may look ok till you touch it and it falls on the floor etc etc etc etc etc.
On the last one I completely re fabricated the 4 rear links but made the sleeves the bushes go in bigger to take the Vauxhall ones.I made the attachment points too drilled to take the bigger Vauxhall bolts. Worked great. Polybushes are good too but they tend to make the rear stiffer.

Re: TU engines in BX's. And who knows about TU engines?
Bloody hell Phil, thats a lot of work, i hope you were being paid handsomely for such horrible jobs.
Luckily this one is nowhere near that bad, thankfully.
Its already got some nice spax springs and KYB gas dampers, most of the bushes look new, if i keep it long enough i shall poly bush it, i dont mind a stiffer ride, they are a bit floppy anyway.

Yeah but I was on about the bushesthey are a bit floppy anyway.
The one thing that was good on the Mk 5's was the paint make sure to tap around the areas mentioned.
I hope it is a good one but experience tells me otherwise.
Yes they were all paid for except the last one which I upgraded for my old mate Gordon. Unfortunately he died shortly after and his sister sent it to the scrapper with out telling me......Wimmin eh!
It was an estate in metallic gold/black pinstripe, with a recon 2ltr Pinto in it too, only done 11,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it have a bent wire coathanger for an aerial? If not, it really should have....Stinkwheel(Matt) wrote:I bought a mk5 cortina today, do i need to hide in a croner here now?
... all landings are in fact controlled crashes, and any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. The definition of a good pilot is a man with the same number of landings as take-offs.

Re: TU engines in BX's. And who knows about TU engines?
I had a lovely '83 1.6 Crusader about 15 or so years ago (which made it only 10 years old at the time).
Booted it off a roundabout and the rear axel decided to completely detach itself from the passenger side giving me instant 3 wheel steer, looked under the drivers side to find it only slightly more attached!
Though i can't criticise, finally sold on my last Mk5 just 3 years ago and sorely miss the RWD fun!
Still always on the lookout for a post '73 Mk3 GXL...

I can still remember the tv advert for the crusader, I was age 12.
Being the farewell model, I seem to recall it had some special features not found on most cortinas.
