ABS Brake Hoses

Post by mat_the_cat » 12 Apr 2010

Long since been NLA I understand? It seems they are still available, from http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/

I've just phoned them up to make sure they are still a stock item, and they have plenty in stock. Don't know if anyone needs them but I thought it might be worth a mention. For what it's worth, ABS driveshafts are also still available, only can't remember the company :( (I sent out several enquiries before France last year, one called back to say yes but at £100 I thought I'd see if I could get one from a scrapyard. Now I can't remember who it was, only that he was called Brian and was a Brummie).

That's good to know, most places list ABS yet end up supplying normal ones.

Mind you, the HEL braided kit is good at £60 for all 4 lines!

£100 for a shaft is a bargain!

All 4 lines?
Am I missing something? BX's only have 2 flexi's...?

Last time I bought one they were about £55 (back in 2004/5!) so I was hoping to find a bargain in France. If only I'd kept the details, but at least there is hope!
I thought there were only 2 hoses as well, i am interested in braided ones but i would have thought you wouldn't notice the difference in a Citroen given there is no direct link between the pedal and calipers? But they would be so much cooler, sad git that I am!

Chris is right, only 2 flexi hoses. the rear arms are connected via a spiral pipe with several coils each side. Looks like a slinky toy. If you've ever done rear arm bearings, the pivot bolt passes through the coils.

Quite correct Smiffy. It was one of those I broke when swapping arms last time. Fortunately Rigbye's had one Sunday morning too.

Do the coils serve any other purpose? coz a braided flexi would by OK to replace it with otherwise.

:? Hmmmm,

Well, having done a couple of sets of bearings I was convinced they had flexi's at the rear :?

Obviously been a while since i've been under the back of the car...

I'll go sit in the corner now

Quick Hi-Jack...

Just looking on that brake site and the full 406 Brembo outfit including calipers, discs and pads (& surcharges) is only £380 :!: Add another 30 notes and you can upgade to drilled/grooved discs. Is that cheap or what? Considering the price they go for on ebay and the fact there's a pair of new Calipers on there now for £350 i think it's a bargain!?!

What's the smallest wheel diameter that'll cover them? And what flexi's would one need to fit them to the BX?

Something bigger than BX 14's, and something that doesn't exist

I've had the 15's off the Picasso on the BX. :D

Not much room at the back but OK as long as the arm brg's are OK.

Mind you, does beg the question about handbrake. 'spose it would have to be a hydraulic jobby.

The reason i ask about wheel sizes is i already have my choice wheels but they're only 15's.

 ONLY 15's????? It's only in the last 10 years that sizes have gone to approximate dimensions of cart wheels. Before then, apart from a handful of cars, you got 13" and that was yer lot.

:) Not really Mat, I was just remarking on how these 20"+ rims look more like something that used to have a horse in front of it.

[chin] Or am I getting the cart before the horse :?

[quote]10's on the mini no?/quote]

I did say apart from a handful. I preferred 12" minilites on mine.

Be careful here Mat, our correspondent Mr Rutherford has found this to be a somewhat thorny issue: http://www.fastandfurryous.co.uk/BX/bxabs.html

Thanks JD, I had seen his page before and that's what rang the bells in my memory about the ABS hoses being NLA. Didn't remember the bit about incorrectly threaded (M10 both ends) ABS hoses being available though so I've asked the question before I part with any cash!

EDIT - within about 10 minutes I have a reply:
Well been and got a hose and yes the male end is M10X1 and the female end is a M9X1.25.....
I think I'll put something up on BCX as well, especially given the problems that David has had...who knows, if they have many orders I might even get a free set out of it!
