This is where the government is still treading on thin ice...

"It is illegal to enforce someone to pay for something they don't want or use".

So, they get around the "BBC Fee" by making you pay a TV licence covering any receiving equipment capable of receiving BBC transmissions (TV's VCR's PC Tuners etc).

You can legitimately get around this by only owning a Monitor, Video Player and a DVD/Bluray (no tuners).

And yes you can watch DVD's & Video's, you pay for the right when you purchase it.

Equally, iPlayer is free, just like listening to BBC radio always has been. But iPlayer will be going to a subscription service eventually anyway.

I agree you should just be able to say "i don't watch BBC so ain't paying" and that again my friends brings me back to the thin ice...

Also, legally, thanks to a change Labour allowed, you have to have a TV license if you watch iPlayer on anything but a laptop (battery powered device). I'm told they where trying to bend the battery powered device rule so that anything that needed a 20% charge rate or more from the mains (ie charge for 20 minutes in every hundred) to maintain continuous use would not be classed as a portable and thus you would need to have a license.

Cunning, because this means you would need a TV license for a car which had a TV tuner!

Now strictly speaking, with everything going digital, will you still need to have a license for a none freeview CRT monitor. I bet you fucking will!! Gang of twats.

But it's no longer licensed. If you own no tv and pay no licence you can still listen to radio.

Wonder if pikeys bother with them

This just shows how outdated the BBC is. I like the 'no commercials' of the BBC and infact all the non BBC channels with commercials breaks get on my tats! It's every 20 sodding minutes! I also dislike my 'watch ratio' in that, I don't watch a huge majority of BBC stuff like East Enders and Football, both of which have to aired ad finitum

Actually back in the late 40's the above was prevalent all over the country. After WW2 the country was dirt poor and hadn't even got back onto it's knees. Although TV was being started up it was 10 years before sets were cheap enough for the masses. Much the same as cars really.

I read that they'll one day put 'black boxes' in our cars, to determine what speed/style of driving etc occurred on impact. I intend to have old cars for as long as possible

Do they? Well that's just shite. It wont be long and they'll drive for us and we can all be lemmings.....

One car has this park assist thing ( or will do if it's a future thing - can't remember) you just drive slowly passed a load of cars and your car will detect if there is enough space between the others to park. It'll then park the car for you! Obviously designed for birds but there ya go!

We've got black boxes in the police cars, used in pursuits and accidents, so yeah I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they appear on production cars. If a technology exists, it will always become cheaper and more widespread!
Cheers,

:x Well maybe customer power will prevail. I'm pretty sure that unless there was legislation, on buying a new car I would say take it out or I don't buy. It sure aint there for my benefit and I'm paying so.................
