I used to like to teach the Russian students that Canterbury was pronounced Cunterbury as I dropped them off at the train station to buy their tickets. Police officers must always be addressed as Cuntstable and we were in the cunty of Kunt. Very important to pronounce things properly if you want to get on I used to tell them.

I try to be sparing & mostly swear for emphasis - people who know me well know it signals something (e.g. to signify something or somebody's really pissed me off, you've really pissed me off, I strongly disagree with you etc).

Swearing while working on a car though can be a little sort of mantra to help get the job done & help me concentrate....

Scarecrow I applaud your teaching skills and indeed, your last sentence "You've gotta take your pleasures somehow." is only too true, important too to have little things that amuse you.

I used to live with a PHD student who often spoke about a 'workpiece', as in a scale model of his project or design. I always referred to it as his ring piece. It was hysterical.
"Hi Stavros, how's your ring piece?"
"Aaaah, eetsa going okaiya" etc etc

I seem to swear all of the time apart from when I'm annoyed, then I really swear, gaining a magical power upgrade ability to include swear words within words as well as all around them. I did spend two whole weeks not swearing and I succeeded quite well - but now I know it's not a habit, I can handle it. Sniff - honest.

My dog hates it if I talk to myself - he gets all paranoid and freaky.
