Moving the fulcrum would only extend the movement at the button end, the length of travel would not alter. Only the amount of force you would have to apply would be reduced. 8)

thats the issue though Phil, there's a limit to how many clicks at the lever end you can have to keep the MoT man happy!

:) That's what I said, the number of clicks won't change from whatever adjustment you have
made, The only thing that changes is the amount of effort you need to operate it.

wait, how? If the fulcrum length is increased, then surely you need a longer movement at the lever to make up for it?

Think of a pinch bar. The longer the bar (scaffold tube) the easier it is to move, but the distance moved remains the same. 8)

Masons rule......... Isn't that an electronery thingy that I never listened to

Cut off every other notch on the handbrake? 10 clicks become 5

/\ god no, I'd have to get out of the seat and walk the lever into the back of the thing if I did that!

I'm still confused Phil, surely to keep the total movement the same but increase leverage then I'd have to make the distance from pivot to end longer at the axle end, AND the handbrake lever end?

Not so. You only need to shorten the end connected to the cable or rod. This would give the handle end a bigger mechanical advantage.

It would work the same if you just lengthened the handle end but that would interfere with the release stuff.

I can see saw with my grandson if I move nearer to the middle. His 3 stone can then easily shift my 16, but the arc remains the same. :D

I can see why the Doc's confused as I couldn't follow your logic either Phil. :?

Your example above surely defeats what you are trying to say because the arc is not the same, yours is considerably shorter than your grandson's (forget the bit of see-saw behind you, most of that can be chopped off!)

[chin] Also your grandson is the handbrake end (lower force, greater movement) to apply the brake (you) smaller movement with greater force! [bow]

Ah! I see your point. Although the handle end arc would remain the same, the other would be shorter, but that would reduce any clicks though, keeping mr MOT happy as well as requiring less force to operate.

decided trying to blow the air up on 9009 was going to be a bitch, sooo, I threw the starter motor back on and we went for a start, despite a large portion of the gearbox being missing..

attempt number 1

attempt number 2

it goes! And threw a large number of clutch plates out!
