Vehicle Excise Duty - Makes me very angwy!

Post by Vanny » 12 Jan 2011

Oh, My and indeed GOD

When did VED (Road Tax) reach £205?!?!?!?

Last time i paid it was £185, and i distinctly remember it being £160 at one point. Thats not inline with inflation (exclusing the inflation of certain flatuent MPS's bank balances).

dont know what your moaning about, the trajets £240.00 a year ok its a V6 but its a bloody people carrier not an F1 car,

once again the goverment base things on emissions etc and you get fucked over unless you drive a boring enviromentally happy box

Not on a BX they don't, anything '73 to '94 used to be pretty much a flat rate.

BX derv-mobile £112.75... 2 days ago. Wank.

Though it does bring up the eco-bollox point that's been nagging me recently...

I'm sure everyone in the galaxy is aware of the London Congestion charge right? Congestion: excessive crowding; "traffic congestion".

Equally, there is also the L.E.Z. (Low Emission Zone) that spanks all the old trucks/busses etc for churning out the black stuff...

So, why the fuck am i hearing adverts say the Golf/Polo "Bluemotion" and crap-heaps like the new Micra escape the Congestion charge because they're extra-green!?!

How does having an eco car make you CONGEST the road less???

Rant over...
Almost BX-less

0-60, 12 secs, top speed 110. Will cruise down the M way ( with cruse on) at 80+ and still return 50 MPG. And contrary to what Vanny thinks, it corners like a sports car. Unfortunately the ride suffers somewhat because of it.

Oh! and the £125 is for a year :)

it'll be 215 PA from April.

Thems the breaks.. It'll never get cheaper.
And I wont ever buy a 6 month tax disc since I will never pay more over a 12 month than I have to.

The 205 is still a bit cheaper though, being a 1360cc..

Either way, MoT, insurance and tax on 3 cars a year is pretty grim, once the bus is on the road it'll be even more grim!

The extra levvy for 6 months is shocking. I'm going to get the oldest (pre-'72 (i think it's '72 anyway)) oil/wood/plastic/shit/carpet/alternator/wanker burning mobile that makes a 747 look eco freindly and the Buncefield Oil disaster look like a small candle.

Actually, our biggest freind be depreciation - or lack of it. Consider the fuck wits who buy new or even nearly new cars. My fucking Xantia cost £6 at 4 yrs old and was worth not a lot at it's 'retirement'. Dementia, alzheimers and arthritus meant it was worth naff all in the used market.....so £6k over the 8 yrs we ran it is £750 P.A. (or, £325 per 6 months to keep Vanny happy). It's a lot in my book but I still think, on reflection, it's not that much compared to what other fuck wits pay to 'look the part'

Actually, I think the new system is fairer and cheaper - I calculated that the BX TZD would have been cheaper to tax if it was under the new rules. The Xsara was being built over the change in rules, and I'm lucky enough to have one of the later ones which is cheaper to tax despite having the same engine as the earlier car!

If we accept that cars need to be taxed, personally I'd do away with VED, congestion charges and toll charges and put the whole lot on fuel.

There's no need for all the expensive, complex ANPR and payment systems that run the congestion charge - cars use more fuel in traffic, so you're still being taxed to drive into congested areas. Spend the savings on public transport so that people actually have a realistic, affordable alternative and you're away.

The transport system as a whole in this country makes me angwy...
Cheers,
Stu

Been in many recent sports cars? Yes it's got better handling than a Triumph Stag V6, and its not bad for the body size, but your having a giraffe if you think it handles like a modern sports car. Oh, i must point out, that i have had several out on track at ProDrive, so i'm not talking about driving round a council estate.

No it's not the biggest cost in the world, but it's at the point where its more expensive to tax the car than to insure it. No wonder so many dont bother with either!

At the moment taxation class on it is still PSV class 6, which I think is £330PA for a tax disc. It's different for single and double deck, deckers pay more.

I can't change the taxation class to PLG until I have a shiney new class 5 MOT in hand to go to the VRO with and argue the toss about it being a big car...

I agree with Stu, up to a point. Given how much tax we already pay on fuel, with the VAT on that aswell, I think we pay more than enough tax (more than anywhere else in the world) already to do away with RFL and leave fuel costs as is.

That said, fuel and RFL are going up again April, so £1.40 PL for DERV looks likely.
