HELP!!

Post by Philhod » 22 Jan 2011

Hi computery experts

Is there anything simple that I could have done by accident, that has turned my sound off.
I've checked the thingy at the btm and it's not switched off and I have the volume set at75. I've gone into control panel and checked the speakers and mike and it says they are working correctly
The only thing it said when I tested the mike settings was the volume was either too high or too low to get a reading????????????????????????????????????????

pulled the cable for the speakers out the back of the computer

There are usually two answer to this question, something really really simple that the user has done, or something fecking complicated to resolve which is usually done by windos and drivers.

No. The jack is in place. I tried pulling it out and trying it in different holes  Nothing but I did get feedback when the jack touched the body, so there's nothing physically wrong.
Err... I don't think. :? :x

Hi. If you have any computer issues feel free to ask my advice

I went in to Device manager went through some FIXIT diagnostics and system tests, applied some technical expertise ( generally pissed about ) and abracadabra, SOUND...in glorious Technicolour.
Not a fucking clue what I did before or tonight but....anyway y'know.. it works 8) 8) 8)

No. The fixit programme appeared in windows help after you worked your magic on it before xmas. Whatever you reloaded must have been an upgrade.
Anyway that didn't fix it. I got a message from that to say either the sound was too high or too low to diagnose so it hadn't... fixed it that is.

I then wet in to device manager and just kept following whatever it said. I was messing for about half an hour, then did a test as suggested and it was on????
No idea which bit of messing fixed it though.

Oh! I might add that I now have sounds when the computer does things that wern't on before so I must have added something when a big list of operations came on asking what sound, chimes etc, you wanted, or not, when certain thing happened, if that makes any sense. :?

Oh my giddy aunt, it sounds like you've completely reinstalled Windoze sounds from scratch. I wouldn't have even dared attempt that!
Cheers,
Stu
