in a word, yes.
Cold oil is thicker hence the pressure is articially high until it warms hence improves how well the clutches will bite.
You *could* try filling it with molasses, but I doubt it'll last long.
Another "get you home bodge" is to fill it with 20/50 engine oil, how long that will last though I dont honestly know, I know it got a gearless XM 30 miles but it was a one way trip anyway.
Yes, the valve chest can just about be removed without dropping the box, but the oil pump can't. I guess you could try removing the valve chest and putting a motherfucker of a spring on the govenor to up the pressure, but again, how long that'll last, fuck only knows. The only other short term solution would be to adjust the kickdown cable so that the govenor thinks you're using say 3/4 throttle when it's actually at idle, but I suspect that would make it shit the bed in minutes.

no worries mate, I suspect it actually would fit easily in the boot, until the boot floor let go and it ended up sat back on the floor!

That sat, if you're a Stig style driver, we do have a 5HP600 box aswell, but thats even heavier, well, a bit..
