The Pug Mi16 box is a much better engineered product.
It's what should have happened in the BX, but didn't.
That said, yes, it will go on a BX box!

so that means it's still the same design then otherwise the erm male member in the BX box, wouldn't fit the err female receptacle so to speak

Sorry for the delay. Are you saying that I could put the Pug engine, gearbox and transfer box into my car, that the loom would be easy to mate up, and that the BX4x4 prop shaft and drive shafts would also mate up. So I'd end up with a BX 4x4 on the outside but a Peugeot Mi 16 4x4 on the inside?

Pretty much, the shaft is a tad thicker, and the splines are a tad better made, from a substance other than crapite, but it'll bolt straight on.

In a nutshell. Yes.
If you whap a 16valve engine in it though I may have to kill you, since I wanted to build the first one, but thats ok, I'll back to the 24V V6 idea!
The loom is easy mate, you just change the whole fucking thing over, job done.

:) Err...I think the answer to that is yes.!!!!

Doc, is there any way of finding out the material spec for the offending parts.
It is probably Moly / Van, suitably heat treated on completion. Obviously it's annealed for machining, but It may be another less hard stuff and thereby could hang the tail.

Erm, I can try and find out, but I dont know anyone that works in enginering for pug.
I'll see what I can get.
I do know they were heat hardened, and a different spec of metals, but I have no idea what.

Re: Stationary BX 4x4

:) That's just my point. There are 3 or 4 different materials the shafts could be made of.

They all work the same way, they need to be annealed (softened) while they are machined
and then re hardened (and tempered) before fitting.

Chrome molybdenum, molybdenum Vanadium are two favorites but I would prefer 3 and a1/2%
or 5% nickel steel. The reason being is that this is slightly less hard but a lot tougher.....

They used to make chisels out of it, the material spec number is 81 and 83 respectively.

Would be interesting to find out what they actually used?????

Kraptonite no doubt :P

Well yeah, in Cit's they used crapite, and cheesium.
I really dont know what the hell they used in the Mi 4x4 box, although I know I've seen the specs somewhere on the interweb.
When I get chance I'll have a look around.
I also seem to remember the splines were a different, more deep design.
