A very sad stupid git i am

Post by Grenman » 30 Jul 2011

Whilst at the petrol station last night, chatting to a mate i hadnt seen for ages i stupidly put 20 L of diesel in the 1.6 petrol Estate. Got me home but started to puke before i got there and i had to abandon her in the lane before the house.
Emptied the tank this am, cleaned the plugs, will do the fuel filter soon, got to buy one on feebay. Will i have done her any damage? there was clouds of smoke initially but all seems to have settled down ok, no smoke. Seems to run fine now. I hope ive at least managed to lubricate the valve stem seals at least.
What a plonka.Never ever thought i would ever do this but there you are, i did.

I wouldn't worry about it now, assuming it's a non cat, carb fed engine.

^^^ WHS
Just keep brimming the tank for a little bit - so long as its not an injected engine it'll be fine, if its injected it might have clogged the injectors a bit.

it'll be fine.. Running a diesel engine n petrol is rather more catastrophic, but t'other way round wont cause any harm.

I did the same thing some years back in my AXGT. I just bought a cheap syphon pump, and after I lifted the rear seat, sucked the diesel out.

Put in some petrol to get to the garage, and filled up....and it was a bit smokey for the first tank full, but it cleared up after that.

  I believe that all petrol engines should have this done now and again. It would give them some much needed lubrication and perhaps stop them chucking their dummy out once they get to 100K. 8)
