Well done that man. Actually you've helped Bandit as well. A bit less scrap for his neighbour to complain about.

HaHa! I'm still alive!
Much gayous frivolty and joyous fun was had (as usual), glad Mr Smith turned up!
I'm sure a couple of the photo's turned out useable...
Anyway, yes Mark, something can be arranged for middle-to-later in the week, let me know when you're diary has an opening...

Re: BX woes
Be careful the lot of you. I know a gay Morris dancer.
As Mark said, I couldn't hear any dodgy noises off the Meteor (especially compared to my increasingly rattly TZD) but bear in mind my hearing isn't that great and his is excellent.
Let's be completely honest - the pair of us are the blind leading the blind! Anyone who actually has a clue what they're talking about and fancies a holiday in Surrey would be more than welcome - it would be a great help to both of us to at least diagnose our problems so that we can work on them slow time!

Re: BX woes
Ok it's not with all the other pics, but as this is BX woes..., Mulley had some of his own woes at Gaydon, when his alternator failed.
Luckily for him, there was a stall next to his car that had 3 alternators there, and the guy sold him all 3 for £10, so with that, Doc got to work.
But it's just aswell he did buy all 3, because the first 2 replacements that Chris fitted were just as fucked as his old one....
The last one however, with the most noisey bearings was the one that worked!

Re: BX woes
Why's Doc fitting his alternative alternator. Don't tell me he can't even do that on his own??

Re: BX woes
I'm glad a good time was had by all at the National!
Jayw you have a PM.
Since the wheel alignment was done, the drone is now quite loud at 50 mph and is more noticeable at 65-70 than it was, and there's also a fair drone at 20 mph which I can feel through the steering wheel... This should easily be noticeable on a test drive. It's not your ears Stu, it's just I chose a shit route to try and demonstrate the noises on - we should have headed straight for the A3.

It's most likely getting worse as the bearing disintegrates further...

Re: BX woes
Well, assuming he hasn't died in a gruesome fireball because i forgot to put the TRE nut on Mark should've been home about an hour ago. With a bit of swearing and a couple of sodding difficult joints/nuts the swap took near on 2 hours but highlighted a couple of issues...
The strut/carrier pinchbolt was threaded and loose which accounts for the negative camber (as the strut sags into the loose carrier).
Due to the fact that none of the nuts, joints, mating faces/lines anywhere in the area look like they've been touched in a long time i'd eat my left testicle if the carrier had been replaced by the garage in the last couple of months.
TBH it's actually a nice straight motor and (apart from below) I can't fault it! Unlike almost every other BX i've driven there's no knocks from the front end, in fact i could almost say it's the most knock-free one i've driven!
So, the biggie... There IS a fault with the steering. Straight-ahead it's fine but it is very heavy to turn off-centre, i'm thinking it could be as simple as needing hydraflushed but isn't there a filter near the ram somewhere that could be blocked restricting flow?

Re: BX woes
I think Doc mentioned either the security valve or the pump earlier in the thread.
And I said check all the geometry including top and btm of the leg.
However, a good flushing never did any harm. I usually clean the reservoir filters out with petrol while I'm at it.

Re: BX woes
There's nothing wrong with the mechanical side of the steering, it's definitely hydraulic like a flow issue...
