None if you're binning the joint, good point, but it is a rather 'blunt instrument' and can bruise surfaces, never found mine much use at all.

Erm yes - wedge type is what I used when I did the driveshaft, because Darrin didn't have anything better... :oops: so yeah it made a bit of a mess of the bj boot and gashed the trackrod end one.

Well, what a weekend!

Thanks again Bandit and Doc for doing a hubbage swap on the field at Stratford. And Phil who helped out too - nice to meet you mate!

That old nearside bearing was FUBAR, so the drive back was most enjoyable with the new one :D

Just need to sort out a NS trackrod end joint that's on its way out, then it's all good.

Oh except that the ns B pillar needs some love with a welder :shock: :lol:

Thanks also to Doc for sorting me out with some bonnet soundproofing and to Vanny and John for installing it - by torchlight!

Remember at Stratty, Smiffy found a bush had gone on the n/s of the rack, and Doc said "ah they always go on the nearside".

What is it actually called and how difficult to replace?

Is that a bush or perhaps the boot? The boot always goes on the nearside because that's the more awkward side to replace it on..... (sod's law, or just a case of it being left until needed for MOT for that very same reason).

ahh, erm, no, it was the bush the rack floats in.
Other than "bush" I dont know another name for it.
Replacement would be major rack strippage, and then you'd have to have one made since you can't get rack bits any longer.

Easier by far to throw a known good rack in the fucker!

Hmmmm....

It's starting to look like a bit of a project to keep this car on the road, what with the prospect of swapping the rack and FDV, sorting out the rusty B Pillar...

... and at the weekend I found some very soggy cardboard boxes and a soaking wet boot carpet caused, predictably, by a hole in the ns corner of the inner wing hidden behind the side panel - where it joins the floor. Back in 2006 when the exhaust hanger fell off, I asked the garage to make a repair, which they did by fashioning a piece of metal with a hook on it, and screwing it in place through some "good metal".

If the exhaust hanger "fell" off there wouldn't have been any good metal, At least not within the area the hanger needed to go.
They probably stuck it to a piece less rusty, rather than cut out to good metal; and weld a piece in, which is the easy fix you need to do :wink:
