BXProject @ Smallwood Vintage Rally ’23
After years of passing hundreds of signs for the event, 2023 saw my first trip to the Smallwood Vintage Rally. And what a rally it is to behold!
After years of passing hundreds of signs for the event, 2023 saw my first trip to the Smallwood Vintage Rally. And what a rally it is to behold!
With the tractor now serviced, it could be pressed into service. To move materials around, I set about fitting a loader.
After the first wobbly drive, the 7610 is sent of for a minor service that turns major. Several thousand pounds later and it drives lovely!
With the wiring complete, tax and insurance in place, it was finally time for me to take the Ford 7610 on its first drive. What could possibly go wrong?
Before I can take the Ford 7610 for a drive, I really need to get the electrics working. The first job was wiring up the lights.
The first tractor I remember riding was a Ford 7610. Suddenly I have a hankering for one. Time to make a childhood dream come true.
Keeping a promise, I'm finally taking the Fergie to the Kelsall Steam Rally. And while the day didn't go smoothly, I can't wait to go again.
Moving the Fergie was becoming troublesome. I had to do something about the rust in the fuel! Could I get away with just lining the fuel tank?
With the Fergie starting reliably it was time for topping the field. But first, we needed to check the hydraulic system and adapt the PTO.
Despite the expectation not to change the 6v Fergie starter motor, it finally died. A new starter was installed and reliability regained.
With the Fergie electrics overhauled, it was time to focus on the weak spark of the ignition and the rusty fuel tank
It's finally time to tackle the Fergie wiring system and see if life can be brought back into it. Will it start first time?
Not all automotive adventures are on road. In this series of articles, we'll look at the recovery and restoration of a Little Grey Fergie.
